Our Seminars

We have 4 professional development seminars that integrate to provide a comprehensive training program on power system protection.

We also have a new seminar, intended for new or non Engineers, covering power system fundamentals.

  • Basic Power System Protection: This is a 2 day, entry level seminar designed to meet the learning needs of new protection engineers and technicians, including those in associated disciplines such as Automation Design, Project Management, Testing, Commissioning, etc. This seminar focuses on the high level aspects of protection design, with minimal mathematical computations.
  • Fundamentals of Power System Protection: This seminar is specifically designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of protection design.  This is far more than a “basic” course and is specifically designed to provide attendees with a high level, but comprehensive understanding of protection design.
This seminar can be covered in 2 days, but our experience is that learning is significantly enhanced at a slower pace over 3 days.
  • Protection of HV & EHV Transmission Systems: This is a 3 day seminar, providing an in-depth consideration of the protection of high and extra high voltage transmission system equipment, considering the differential protection of busbars, transformers and feeders, and also the distance and protection signalling schemes for transmission system feeders.  This seminar focuses on the advanced aspects of protection design, including, for example, the difficulties associated with unique system configurations, such as mutually coupled and teed feeders.
  • Generator & Power Station Protection: This is a comprehensive 2 day seminar designed to meet the needs of Power Station engineers and technicians, covering busbar and transformer protection, LV system over current protection, AC induction motor protection and the protection of AC synchronous generators.
  • Fundamentals of the Power System for Non-Engineers: This 2 day seminar is intended to provide a fundamental but comprehensive insight for all of the electricity industry non-engineering staff, including accountants, project managers, clerical, admin and HR personnel (and yes, even new engineers, technicians and managers) into the workings of the electricity network infrastructure.  We take you from an understanding of magnetism and static electricity through to three phase AC power, and discuss all of the generation, transmission, distribution, automation and protection infrastructure necessary to bring that about.

In addition to providing the above “standard” seminars, we can custom design presentations to meet your requirements, one particularly popular option being to include just the topic of “Generator Protection” with the “Fundamentals” seminar, over a 3 day period.
